Autumn day by Rainer Maria Rilke

Herbsttag
by Rainer Maria Rilke

Lord, it‘s time. Big summer had its days
Cast your shadow on the sundials
And let the winds now have their ways

Command all fruits to come of age;
grant them two more southern suns
urge them to perfection and chase
final drops of sweetness into grapes

Without a house now you won‘t build one
Without a spouse you‘ll stay alone
will watch out, read and write long letters,
and will in alleyways be torn
between directions like a feather.
